Dr. Lazic’s story was recently featured in the Skin Cancer Foundation’s Blog by Julie Bain, the Senior Director of Science and Education. In this interview, they discussed how Dr. Lazic’s own stage IV cancer diagnosis spurred her to pursue a dream- to collaborate with her two kids and write children’s books that promote skin health. Together, they created a series of graphic novels SKINVENTUREZ, with the debut title, The Sunscreaming Summer, dedicated to sun protection and skin cancer prevention.
“Tamara Lazic Strugar, MD, had spoken the word “cancer” countless times. As an associate clinical professor at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City, she had taught the ins and outs of skin cancer to dermatology residents and medical students for more than a decade. As a medical dermatologist in Midtown Manhattan, she had told many patients that they were diagnosed with skin cancer.
